The school system has been informed by the contractor and architect that there is an unexpected delay in the receipt of the seats for the theatre space at the new Dr. Rodney R. Lafon Performing Arts Center. The company manufacturing, shipping, and installing the theatre seating has declared bankruptcy, disrupting more than 100 projects nationwide. This will delay the use of the main theatre space by approximately five months while we await the production, delivery and installation of theatre seats. This issue is beyond our control and, unfortunately, can be an occurrence of complex projects such as this one.
Because of the delay in receiving the theatre seats, the 2018-2019 inaugural Season of Shows previously announced will be postponed until 2019-2020. Season ticket subscribers may either transfer their tickets to the 2019-2020 inaugural season or receive a full refund. For more information on season ticket options or to receive a refund, please contact the Box Office at (985) 331-3670 during Box Office hours (Tuesday-Friday from 12:00-5:00 p.m.).
We are happy to announce that the center will still be producing the PALSS Season this year! We will be holding the first three PALSS productions (Snow White, Great Pumpkin, and Story of the Shelf Elf) at one of the local high schools. Once the theatre seats are installed we will move the remainder of the season to the Lafon Arts Center. We hope you decide to maintain your PALSS season subscription with us.
Please know that the school system is working closely with the architect and contractor and is committed to completing this world-class facility reflecting the quality that our students and community deserve. We share in the disappointment caused by the delay of the completion of the theatre space, but other areas of the center and educational wing will be ready and utilized for education and performance venues as planned. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your continued support of SCPPS!
