Lafon Arts Center’s Family Series

Our Family Series invites your whole family to open up their imaginations and get lost in the world we create together! With performances designed to educate, entertain, and inspire, these over-the-top productions in dance, music, and theatre are sure to delight audiences of all ages! Each performance is about one-hour and generally performed without an intermission. We invite artists from around the corner to around the globe for our families to enjoy.  You won’t see anything like this anywhere else!

The critically acclaimed production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show created by Jonathan Rockefeller features a menagerie of 75 lovable puppets. The production faithfully adapts four stories by author/illustrator Eric Carle: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, 10 Little Rubber Ducks, The Very Lonely Firefly and of course, the star of the show – The Very Hungry CaterpillarThe Very Hungry Caterpillar has delighted generations of readers since it was first published in 1969 selling more than 48 million copies worldwide. Brown Bear, Brown Bear – now celebrating 50 years – has sold more than 18.2 million copies. 

Following extended runs in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, this “colorful, engaging and charming” production (Huffington Post) returns to New York City every year, with its most recent 8-month run being its biggest yet.

DINO-LIGHT, formerly known as Darwin the Dinosaur, was the recipient of the prestigious Jim Henson Foundation Grant and first feature-length theatrical production created and performed by creators Ian Carney and Corbin Popp.

In this original storyline, a famous scientist with magic powers brings a friendly dinosaur to life. When the dinosaur wanders away from home, he discovers a wonderful world full of creatures that light up the darkness and help him find the true meaning of love.

This glow-in-the-dark adventure is visually amazing and has been praised for its cutting edge blend of puppetry, technology and dance by audiences all over the world.

James’s Grandpa has the best balloons because he has the best memories. He has balloons showing Dad when he was young and Grandma when they were married. Grandpa has balloons about camping and Aunt Nelle’s poor cow. Grandpa also has a silver balloon filled with the memory of a fishing trip he and James took together.

But when Grandpa’s balloons begin to float away, James is heartbroken. No matter how hard he runs, James can’t catch them. One day, Grandpa lets go of the silver balloon— and he doesn’t even notice!

Grandpa no longer has balloons of his own. But James has many more than before. It’s up to him to share those balloons, one by one.

Created by Director/Choreographer Dominic Moore-Dunson, recognized in Dance Magazine’s prestigious “25 to Watch” list for 2023, this dance production breathes life into “The Remember Balloons” story by bringing it to the stage! Beautifully accompanied by an original score composed by Theron Brown, the show incorporates digital projections and voiceover narration to complement Moore-Dunson’s theatrical choreography, resulting in an experience built for the entire family.
