Theatre & Dance

Setting the Stage for Student Success.

From stage presence to choreography, students learn by doing. Theatre and dance programs across St. Charles Parish Public Schools give students the chance to perform, collaborate, and grow as artists under the guidance of dedicated educators and guest professionals.

Theatre

Students from elementary, middle, and high school participate in the Talented Theatre program, giving them the opportunity to develop their craft and showcase their work on stages throughout the parish. Performances take place regularly in both the Black Box and the Shell Theater.

Destrehan High School and Hahnville High School are among the top-ranking public high school theatre programs in the South, with students from both schools advancing to Nationals through the International Thespian Society.

Collaborative opportunities extend across the district:

  • Middle School Theatre Collaborative
This program brings together students from all four SCPPS middle schools to produce a spring musical each year. Recent productions include Junie B. Jones Jr. (2025), Rock of Ages: Youth Edition (2024), and Frozen Jr. (2023).
  • Elementary School Theatre Collaborative
Students from all nine SCPPS elementary schools collaborate annually on a spring musical. Recent productions include Finding Nemo KIDS (2025) and Winnie the Pooh KIDS (2024).
  • Spotlight Summer Theatre Intensive
This two-week summer program invites rising 4th–9th graders to learn singing and dancing while preparing for a full-scale musical production.

Dance

High school students may elect to take Dance as a Physical Education credit each semester. Students from Destrehan High School and Hahnville High School enroll through the Satellite Center and travel to Lafon for daily instruction.

From foundational technique to advanced performance, dance at Lafon offers students a supportive environment to explore movement, artistry, and self-expression. Two course levels are offered:

  • Dance I welcomes any student—regardless of experience—who is curious about movement or looking to gain confidence in their bodies.
  • Dance II deepens understanding through class discussions on dance philosophy and performance practice, helping students build the skills needed for efficient, professional rehearsal and performance.
