“…the second fifty years of New Orleans jazz history.”
November 14th, 2021
The Lula Elzy New Orleans Dance Theatre, in celebration of its 30th anniversary and in collaboration with the Ellis Marsails Orchestra under the direction of Derek Douget, presents in concert “The Silverbook: Music of the Modern Jazz Masters of New Orleans.” This special groove-centered performance celebrates the phenomenal music of Harold Battiste, Ellis Marsalis, Alvin “Red” Tyler, Ed Blackwell, James Black and Alvin Batiste, the first generation of New Orleans modern jazz composers, performers and educators who have left a lasting mark on this still living, still evolving contribution to world culture that was born in The Crescent City. The Silverbook was conceived and published by composer, performer, arranger, and educator extraordinaire Harold Battiste, whose mission was to document what he called “the second fifty years of New Orleans jazz history.” The result is an exceptionally rewarding musical experience.
